Dr. Martens: A Fascinating Story
Dr. Martens shoes
Today I would like to talk about Dr. Martens .
Don't miss it because it's a really interesting story!
The very long history of Dr. Martens begins in 1901 when entrepreneurs Benjamin Griggs and Septimimus Jones began manufacturing boots for miners and the British army.
The company that produced these shoes was located in Great Britain, precisely in a county renowned for shoe manufacturing.
A German doctor, in 1943, broke his foot while skiing in the Bavarian Alps and, after this event, stated that he found it uncomfortable to walk in shoes whose soles were made of classic leather.
He began to think about a new type of sole and began to create an innovative shoe on his own by referring to the boot models on the market.
DOCTOR MAERTENS created a brown boot with 8 holes, but this model was not successful.
Years later the doctor met an old university classmate in Munich, Funck, who was positively surprised by the design of these boots.
The two decided to open a new shoe manufacturing business together using rubber waste from the German Air Force and had a huge following!
The two then decided to address an international audience to try to sell the license.
In 1959 Griggs (do you remember? Otherwise go back to the beginning in a second) noticed the announcement by Maertens and Funck and decided to immediately acquire the patent.
The name Dr. Martens was chosen (anglicizing the doctor's German name and leaving out the name Funck as it was too similar to the F word...).
